It's time to downsize so here's a big lot of 50 vintage horse racing programs with many from the 1930s and 1940s and the decades that follow. There are some nice programs and great horses, jockeys and trainers included in here, but please don't buy this with the expectation of getting programs with Seabiscuit, Citation, Secretariat, etc. (see our other auctions for some truly historic programs). With that said, there are some real gems in here with some Hall of Fame horses. I can't list all the details, but here are some of the highlights:
Santa Anita Park - February 16, 1938 - Top Row (1936 Santa Anita Handicap winner) in a handicap race
Santa Anita Park - January 30, 1937 - San Vicente Handicap
Churchill Downs - May 3, 1968 - Kentucky Oaks (the Kentucky Derby wagering page is included as well)
Saratoga - August 10, 1985 - Alabama Stakes with Mom's Command and Fran's Valentine
Churchill Downs - May 21, 1960 - Bashford Manor Stakes
Garden State Park - May 29, 1989 - Jersey Derby

As for the condition, most are in pretty good shape (no major rips, tears or creases) and most have the usual markings with some results, scratches, changes, etc. noted. Some have pretty heavy writing and others just a little. Some are in excellent condition and a handful are a bit rough, but overall they are generally in good condition. If you have a question about a particular one, please ask. Also you can zoom in on the photos to view the condition for yourself.
Starting this with a $1 opening bid and no reserve!
Shipping is $14.95 (these are pretty heavy with 50 of them). They will be packed and shipped very securely. Please see our other auctions for more racing items.

Vintage horse racing program January 27, 1940 at Santa Anita Park. This is a loaded program starting with the 5th race, which was a $1,500 allowance race that included GALLAHADION, who would go on to win that year's Kentucky Derby and finish third in the Preakness Stakes, and MIOLAND, who went on to finish second in the Preakness and won the American Derby. The featured race was the San Felipe Handicap, which included highweighted KAYAK 2nd for owner Charles S. Howard, trainer Tom Smith and jockey Red Pollard of Seabiscuit fame. Kayak was scratched from this race, and OUR MAT ended up winning. Also very cool about this program is that SEABISCUIT is listed as being declared from this race. The Biscuit retired in April 1940, so this program is one of the final times his named appeared in a program. We are putting this up with a low starting bid and no reserve!
This program has writing throughout, as pictured, but no major creases or folds and is in very nice condition. There is a bit of staple rust. Please review the photos and use the magnify feature to review the condition. We guarantee satisfaction with the racing items we sell, so if you are not happy with it then it can be returned for a full refund, assuming it is returned in the same condition of course.
Shipping is $7.95, which includes a rigid mailer reinforced with cardboard for protection.
Please check out other auctions for many other historical horse racing items to be listed in the coming weeks, with other programs from the 1930s and 1940s, including several Seabiscuit programs!
